Alkagesta said marine fuel diversification and supply security were prominent topics at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, where its executives and traders attended industry sessions and met shipping and bunker market participants. In its account of the event, the company described discussions about the sector’s changing fuel mix alongside the practical requirements for expanding decarbonisation projects beyond the pilot stage.
According to Alkagesta, conference sessions considered how biofuels, methanol and LNG could increasingly supplement conventional marine fuels, with their use varying across vessel types and trade routes. The company linked those discussions to its own work to expand sustainable fuel capabilities. It cited a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp as elements of that effort.
Supply security was another recurring subject in the company’s account. Alkagesta said participants discussed fuel diversification as a way to manage risk by limiting reliance on individual supply sources. The discussions placed that approach in the context of continuing pressures on global energy supplies, with a broader choice of fuels presented as a means of improving resilience for operators.
Moving decarbonisation initiatives into commercial-scale operation also featured in the conference programme. Alkagesta reported that industry leaders identified clearer regulation, safety frameworks and access to finance as important conditions for that transition. Its account covered both the immediate outlook for the marine fuels sector and the longer-term changes facing shipping.
Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov, alongside Tural Huseynov, Agshin Bakirzade, Mithat Çiftçioğlu and Afiq Salim, representing investment and asset management, APAC commodity trading and marine fuels. Outside the formal sessions, the company said its team met shipowners, bunker traders, customers, suppliers and other industry counterparts. Those meetings focused on maintaining existing relationships and exploring potential collaboration across the APAC region.
