Alkagesta attended Miller’s DayWithMiller programme and annual cocktail reception in Paris on 8 October, according to an account published by the company. The gathering drew more than 400 participants from the commodity trade finance and risk sectors, including traders, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers. Alkagesta’s report focused on the workshop agenda and the opportunity to strengthen relationships across those groups.
The daytime programme consisted of workshops organised by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team. Industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and commodity risk management, with discussions covering credit and surety arrangements alongside marine cargo insurance and political risk cover. According to Alkagesta, the sessions examined the financial and insurance mechanisms supporting commodity trading, as well as institutional approaches to managing risk and compliance in an increasingly complex operating environment.
An evening cocktail reception followed the workshops, allowing attendees to continue discussions and develop contacts within the commodity industry’s finance and risk community. Alkagesta described the wider event as a forum for exchanges among trading businesses and the institutions that provide financing, insurance and other forms of risk support for their activities.
The company linked its participation to three priorities: strengthening its risk management arrangements, building closer ties with insurance and reinsurance partners, and presenting the compliance and governance standards it says support its international trading business. Those priorities formed the company’s explanation of why it participates in gatherings of this kind, rather than an announcement of a new financing or insurance agreement.
Alkagesta said its trading activities span petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel in approximately 48 countries. It described its network of trade finance, risk and insurance partners as central to carrying out those operations responsibly, placing the Paris gathering within its broader effort to maintain those relationships.
