Alkavex, the steel trading arm of Alkagesta, has held business development meetings in the Chinese cities of Tangshan and Tianjin to support its sourcing and trading activities. According to an account published by Alkagesta, the visits brought the venture into contact with steel manufacturers, trading businesses, processors and industry representatives as part of its continuing commercial development work in China.
Bayram Bayramli, China Business Developer at Alkagesta, led the engagements. The company said the discussions offered direct insight into manufacturers’ production capabilities, the infrastructure supporting their supply chains and opportunities for international trade. The programme covered both companies involved in producing and processing steel and industry associations, giving Alkavex contact with several parts of the regional steel supply chain rather than manufacturers alone.
Alkagesta described Tangshan and Tianjin as jointly forming one of China’s most important corridors for steel production and exports. It said the meetings strengthened the relationships supporting Alkavex’s regional sourcing and trading business. The account focused on commercial contacts and understanding supply capabilities; it did not provide transaction values, shipment volumes or details of any supply agreements resulting from the visits.
Based in Malta, Alkavex is a joint venture between Alkagesta and French steel trading company Navex SAS, with Alkagesta holding the majority stake. Its initial product focus is on semi-finished and finished steel, sourced mainly from China. That sourcing base connects the venture’s commercial activity in China with its customer business in West and East Africa.
Alkagesta said Alkavex serves those African markets by combining market knowledge, logistics capabilities and trade finance solutions. It described the business as supporting growing demand linked to construction, manufacturing and infrastructure development. The Chinese visits sit within that stated model: developing relationships with suppliers in its principal sourcing market while serving customers across the two African regions.
